Ville Platte men arrested, one claims to be police officer; drugs, guns seized

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY) -- Two men were arrested, one of whom claimed to be a police officer, and large amounts of guns and drugs were seized in a raid on a Ville Platte home last week, authorities said.
Marvin Campbell, 70, of Ville Platte, and Terry Campbell, 65, of Ville Platte, are each charged with 47 counts of illegal carrying of a firearm, nine counts of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids and two counts of possessing or dealing in unregistered or illegally transferred weapons.
Narcotic agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office and the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, executed a search warrant May 27 at 7061 U.S.-167 North in Ville Platte, the residence of Terry Campbell and Marvin Campbell.
In the house, agents found 1.73 grams of methamphetamine, several digital scales and 47 various firearms, including rifles and shotguns, with two of the guns illegally modified, authorities said. Several pieces of drug paraphernalia such as Marijuana grinders, smoking pipes and rolling papers were also found, along with a total of over $9,700 in cash.
Elsewhere on the properly agents located nine Marijuana plants ranging from approximately 15 to 60 inches in length, with several apparently partially harvested, officials said.
When Terry Campbell and Marvin Campbell were questioned, both said that they were disabled and had been for several years, authorities said.
A badge belonging to the Mamou Police Department was located in the center of the dashboard of a vehicle on the property pointing out towards the windshield as if portraying himself as a police officer, authorities said. Marvin Campbell said he was commissioned by the previous chief of police in Mamou, Brent Zachary.
Mamou Assistant Chief Caleb Semien said Marvin Campbell was not a police officer with the Mamou Police Department, and that the badge should have been turned in, officials said.
Both were booked into the Evangeline Parish jail. Marvin Campbell was released Tuesday on $310,000 bond, and Terry Campbell is being held on $315,000 bond, jail records show.
