Man who shot teen in Clackamas Town Center parking lot gets 7+ years in prison
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 19-year-old man who shot a teenager in the parking lot of Clackamas Town Center in Dec. 2024 pleaded guilty to attempted murder on Wednesday, the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office announced.
Pedro Anthony Cornejo-Morales also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon charges as part of a plea agreement. He was sentenced to 90 months in prison.
Officials say that on Dec. 20, 2024, "Cornejo-Morales walked up to a car in the mall parking lot and fired five shots at a passenger, 15-year-old Zenon Elias Mendez. Mendez suffered a gunshot wound to his left hand and was treated at a nearby hospital."
Cornejo-Morales was arrested shortly after the shooting. A second man, 20-year-old Carlos Raul Hererra-Medrano, was also charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He was arrested 11 days after the shooting. His trial is scheduled for Aug. 12.
"Cornejo-Morales and Hererra-Medrano followed Mendez around the mall prior to the shooting," officials said. "Mendez and a female accompanying him realized they were being followed and recognized the two men. They left the mall and when they attempted to drive away, Cornejo-Morales and Hererra-Medrano approached their vehicle and Cornejo-Morales began shooting."
