Lowe's Makes Major Move to Compete With Home Depot

Home Depot and Lowe's are the two biggest names in the United States when it comes to home improvement superstores. This week, Lowe's made a pretty significant move to help compete with Home Depot for the top spot.

This week, Lowe's announced that it had officially completed its acquisition of Artisan Design Group for just over $1.3 billion.

ADG is "a leading nationwide provider of design, distribution and installation services" that focuses on flooring, cabinets and countertops, Lowe's wrote in its news release.

"We are pleased to complete this transaction and officially welcome the talented ADG team to Lowe's. ADG has built an industry-leading position through consistent execution and outstanding customer service, earning strong customer satisfaction scores from the top homebuilders," said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe's chairman, president and CEO, in a statement on Monday.

"This acquisition positions us to accelerate our growth in Pro planned spend and expand into an adjacent distribution channel in a highly fragmented, approximately $50 billion market."

The acquisition will help bolster Lowe's Pro business and compete with Home Depot in that regard after the competitor made a similar move around this time last year.

In June of 2024, Home Depot acquired SRS Distribution for just over $18 billion. At the time, Home Depot said that SRS "is a leader with the specialty trade PRO in roofing, landscaping, and pool," and the move was intended to complement the "Pro capabilities Home Depot is already building and will help us better serve complex project purchases."

Clearly, both companies are trying to bolster their offerings and compete to become the top home improvement superstore in the country.
