Halle Berry Reveals Her Hesitation to Accept Boyfriend Van Hunt's Proposal

Halle Berry is revealing the reason that she hasn’t yet gotten engaged to her longtime boyfriend Van Hunt in an interview with TODAY.com on Wednesday (June 4).

According to the couple, Van has proposed to Halle but she’s just not ready to say yes. The 58-year-old actress revealed that what’s holding her back from accepting the 55-year-old musician’s proposal is the fact that she’s been married previously.

Prior to her relationship with Van, Halle was married from 1993 to 1997 to retired MLB player David Justice, then to musician Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005, and to actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016. Van and Halle have been in a relationship since 2020 and Van revealed he’s proposed but Halle hasn’t said yes.

“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold, as you can see,” Van said and joked that host Jenna Bush Hager may be able to encourage her to say accept.

In response to the discussion, Halle reiterated that she doesn’t think officially being married for a fourth time is necessary to show that she’s serious about her relationship with Van. She said, “We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way.”

Halle went on to say that she’s not completely against the idea of walking down the aisle again.

The Catwoman actress told Jenna, “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married.”

Not being married yet hasn’t stopped the two of them from sharing their love for each other on social media. Last month, the two were the talk of the internet when they posted an intimate video of the two of them in bed.
