Jannik Sinner Praised His Family, Calling Parents Johann & Siglinde 'Perfect'

The Italian tennis phenom Jannik Sinner has credited his family for helping him succeed on the tennis court.

And succeed he has; Sinner prevailed in a thrilling semi-final match against tennis great Novak Djokovic, and he is competing in the French Open final against Carlos Alcaraz of Spain on June 8.

Sinner has opened up in the past about his parents' approach to raising him, praising them.

“I wish that everyone could have my parents because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to,” Jannik said when he won the Australian Open in 2024. That was his first Grand Slam title.

Sinner told reporters that the support he has "from home" is very important to his success on the court. But he said he doesn't get to see his parents a lot now. He said when he does see them, it's a "great time." He left home at age 14 and had to grow up fast, cooking and doing laundry for himself.

According to People, Sinner's dad Johann Sinner is a chef and his mom Siglinde Sinner is a former waitress. He was born in South Tyrol, Italy, and also has an older brother named Mark, People reported. His parents met at a ski lodge. Johann Sinner sometimes goes by the name Hanspeter Sinner.

According to Sinner, he played other sports when he was younger, and "they never put pressure" on him, adding, “I wish that this freedom is possible for as many young kids as possible."

He said that was the "key to why I am here today," describing himself as quiet and relaxed. They are the "perfect parents," Sinner said, also praising his brother, who he said "brings me honesty."

After winning the U.S. Open in 2024, Sinner spoke about his family again and dealing with the pressures of professional tennis.

"There were always the people who were close to me daily, people who know me already from when I was very young, and also my family and my team," he said.

He said he always "tries to stick together with them" when moments get tough "because I know they can help me."
