Carlos Alcaraz’s Mom Is Going Through It at French Open Final

Carlos Alcaraz is looking to win the fourth major championship of his career, but his family is celebrating each point as if he's looking for his first.

Alcaraz is locked in a marathon match with Jannik Sinner in the French Open final. The two elite players have battled for nearly five hours on Sunday, as neither player will yield in one of the most incredible sporting events of the year.

Sinner and Alcaraz have given fans everything they could want and more in a Grand Slam final, but only one of them will be able to walk away with the win.

Crowd shots during the game showed a clearly emotional Virginia Garfia Escandón, Alcaraz's mother, between points. Sinner's mother appeared to be equally as emotional as she watched her son.

Sinner, the No. 1 men's player in the world, is also looking for his fourth career Grand Slam. He's a two-time Australian Open winner and won last year's US Open, but Sunday is his first opportunity to win the French Open. Sinner also won the 2024 ATP Finals, defeating Taylor Fritz in the last match to affirm his position as world No. 1 heading into the new year.

He's kept his spot by winning in Melbourne for the second year in a row, and a win on Sunday would put him halfway through an annual Grand Slam.

Alcaraz has been called the heir apparent to Rafael Nadal, and winning at Roland Garros was what Nadal did best during his career. The Spaniard won the French Open an incredible 14 times in his career, and once won 81 consecutive matches on clay - the longest such streak of the Open Era.

Alcaraz and Sinner have a long way to go in their careers to reach the heights of Nadal, Roger Federer and some of the other greats from years' past, but they're already well on their way with the success they've had early in their careers.
