Iran calls for Emergency IAEA Meeting after Nuclear Facility Attacks

Following Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iran’s Foreign Minister called for an emergency IAEA board meeting to address the crisis.

Following Israel’s military strike on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility and other locations, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, sent an official letter to Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In the letter, Araghchi called for an emergency session of the IAEA’s Board of Governors to address the crisis.

Araghchi condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and emphasized that Iran has decided to implement special measures to protect its nuclear equipment and materials. He also assured that Iran would take a firm response to these attacks.

The Foreign Minister also urged Grossi to take immediate and decisive action in response to the Israeli strikes, stressing that Tehran’s concerns about the security of its nuclear facilities should be taken “seriously.”

Iranian media reported that just hours before the attacks, the IAEA’s Board of Governors passed what Iran considered a “biased” resolution against the country. Iranian officials dismissed the reports used in the resolution as unfounded.

The Iranian government stressed that the attacks on its nuclear sites constitute a severe threat to national security and a blatant violation of international law. Tehran has called for accountability and swift action from the international community in response to the strikes.

Iranian media have reported that Israel launched the third wave of its attacks on Iran in recent days, targeting both military and nuclear sites. The most significant target of this wave was the sensitive Fordow nuclear facility, located deep underground near Qom.

In addition to Fordow, other military and nuclear sites were hit, including areas in southern Tehran and the Parchin military complex. Explosions were reported in several locations, indicating the scale of the attacks.

Iran has condemned the Israeli strikes as a direct violation of its sovereignty and national security, calling for international action to address this growing crisis. The attacks have intensified the already tense situation between Israel and Iran, with both countries bracing for further escalation.
