'He has no idea!' Trump attacks French president as he abandons G7 summit
President Donald Trump fired off social media attacks throughout the night after abruptly leaving the G7 summit in Canada Monday.
The U.S. president left the summit a day earlier than expected, but angrily denied in a 1:20 a.m. EST Truth Social post that he had returned to Washington to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, as had initially been reported by media outlets and seemingly confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron, who told reporters that "an offer was made" to meet and exchange.
"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a 'cease fire' between Israel and Iran," Trump posted. "Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire."
"Much bigger than that," Trump added. "Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!"
Trump told reporters on his Air Force One flight home that he would hold meetings in the White House situation room and had returned to Washington, in part, to avoid relying on telephones to conduct that work. He followed up his earlier post with another four hours later.
"I have not reached out to Iran for 'Peace Talks' in any way, shape, or form," Trump posted at 5:20 a.m. EST. "This is just more HIGHLY FABRICATED, FAKE NEWS! If they want to talk, they know how to reach me. They should have taken the deal that was on the table - Would have saved a lot of lives!!!"
Trump triggered a panicked evacuation by residents of Tehran with an ominous Truth Social post on Monday evening, as blasts rocked the Iranian capital and Tel Aviv in Israel as the two adversaries exchanged missile attacks.
"Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign," Trump posted at 6:30 p.m. Washington time. "What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!"
