Copake man charged after police chase across multiple counties and states
ANCRAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a Copake man after a reported pursuit that spanned multiple days, counties, and states. Michael Faranda, 53, was charged with first-degree criminal contempt.
On June 13, sheriff's deputies tried to pull Faranda over in his car in Ancram during an investigation regarding previous criminal contempt charges. The Copake man reportedly refused to stop and fled the area into Dutchess County.
Three days later, on June 16, law enforcement located him in Copake and again attempted to stop him, but he allegedly took off once more, leading officers on a chase through Copake, Ancram and Hillsdale. The chase was called off shortly after Faranda crossed into Massachusetts.
On Tuesday, New York State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office found Faranda around 1:50 p.m. in the town of Northeast and arrested him without further incident. He was turned over to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and has additional charges pending.
Faranda was held without bail at the Columbia County Jail after being arraigned at the Town of Ancram Court. He’s slated to return to court on June 25.
