National hero Mushore burial on Monday

VETERAN politician and former Member of Parliament for Muzarabani South, Cde Luke Mushore, who died on June 13, has been declared a National Hero and will be buried on Monday.

President Mnangagwa will preside over proceedings at the National Heroes Acre.

Cde Mushore (76), affectionately known as Dick Joboringo, is a former Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central province and was accorded the highest honour for his unwavering dedication to the country, Zanu PF and the people of Zimbabwe.

His death has left a void in the hearts of many, with officials expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the veteran of the liberation struggle.

The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage and Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland Central Province, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, reflected on Cde Mushore’s death and gave details about his burial.

“Cde Mushore, affectionately known as Cde Dick Joboringo, will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare and President Mnangagwa is set to preside over the burial,” he said.

“The family requested that he be buried on Monday and the President has agreed to their request, so it is all systems go for the burial. We have lost a pillar of strength in our party and our community. His commitment to the development of our province and the nation at large will always be remembered”.

Minister Kazembe visited the Mushore family home in Muzarabani, along with Politburo member and Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Senator Monica Mavhunga and Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo.

Cde Mushore was among the early freedom fighters, having joined the liberation struggle in 1972 and was revered for his steadfast commitment both during and after the war.

Minister Magomo said Cde Mushore made an immense contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and post-independence development.

“After the war, he remained steadfastly loyal to the ruling party and rose through the ranks to become the Zanu PF provincial chairperson,” said Minister Magomo.

“He also played an active role in land reform, empowering local communities.”

After independence, Cde Mushore established a thriving farm in Centenary, which Minister Magomo described as a “centre of excellence” for its outstanding agricultural productivity.

The late national hero significantly contributed to the Gross Domestic Product of both the province and the country.

“He was more than a farmer. He was a generous leader, a mentor and a unifier. His ability to bring people together earned him great respect, and it was this legacy that led the provincial leadership to recommend him for national hero status,” said Minister Magomo.

Mourners are gathered at Cde Mushore’s farm in Muzarabani.
