Gareth Bale is keen on stepping into football ownership, and the Tottenham legend’s latest move involves a bold attempt to take over his hometown club.
A few days ago, we reported that Gareth Bale could make a return to English football in a surprising way.
Of course, the Welsh international has since retired, so his return to English football was not set to take place on the pitch, but off it, as Bale sought to buy ownership of League One club Plymouth Argyle.
It was reported that the ex-footballer was in talks to front a US private equity group in their bid to buy the Argyle, after it was revealed by the club’s chairman, Simon Hallett, that they have been exploring fresh investment opportunities for over a year now.

While the 35-year-old former footballer has no ties to Argyle, it is not entirely shocking to see footballers take on ownership roles at clubs, as former Tottenham player Luka Modric is currently a co-owner of Championship side Swansea City.
A new report, this time from The Athletic, now claim that Bale’s desire to own a football club is not cooling off any time soon, as it is understood that the former Spurs man is leading a consortium that has made an approach to buy Welsh side Cardiff City.
Of course, the Tottenham legend’s interest in Cardiff is pretty much understandable, as they are his hometown club.
However, securing ownership of the Welsh side is not going to be simple, as reports state that Gareth Bale’s consortium submitted a letter of intent to Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan last month, outlining their interest in buying the club and including detailed financial figures, but his proposal was rejected.
Although Cardiff rejected Bale’s bid, it is understood that the Welshman remains very much interested in pursuing a deal.
Cardiff appeal is stronger than Plymouth Argyle for Bale
An update regarding reports linking the former Spurs man with a move for Plymouth Argyle was also shared by The Athletic.
It was stated by the news outlet that Bale is not in the frame to acquire the League One club, despite recent reports.
However, his interest in Cardiff, who were a Premier League side back in the 2018-19 season but finished bottom of the Championship last campaign, two points off Plymouth in 23rd, recording only nine wins, is strong.
