Green Island fire deemed accidental by investigators
GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Emergency crews responded to a fire in Green Island on July 4. The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m. on Riverview Drive.
Firefighters arriving to the scene were met with an advanced fire with heavy smoke coming from a four-bay garage at the property. Crews with the Green Island, Watervliet, Watervliet Arsenal, and Cohoes Fire Departments were able to control the spread of the flames and extinguish the blaze within fifteen minutes.
Investigators determined the fire to be accidental, stating that the incident stemmed from fireworks in a garage unit being improperly discarded. The incident resulted in smoke and water damage to the building, but no civilians or firefighters were injured in the operation.
