Mirra Andreeva, 18, Makes Wimbledon History After Having No Idea She Won
In what proved to be an especially wild afternoon at Wimbledon on Monday, July 7, the rapidly rising star in women's tennis that is Mirra Andreeva just about stole the entire show for a number of reasons.
The 18-year-old phenom, currently ranked No. 7 in the world, was facing no small task with No. 10 Emma Navarro serving as the next obstacle toward the young Russian making Wimbledon history.
As it turns out, it wasn't all that much of a daunting challenge for the fearless Andreeva, cruising to a win in straight sets with relative ease, 6-3, 6-3.
In doing so, a special kind of Wimbledon history was made that would be so hard to duplicate that it's kind of miraculous it even happened to begin with.
Mirra Andreeva becomes the youngest woman to reach the Wimbledon Quarterfinals since Maria Sharapova in 2005.

At 18 years of age, Andreeva became the youngest woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since fellow Russian star Maria Sharapova did so in 2005, which was sincerely cool enough all on its own.
But to learn it was achieved at 18 years and 62 days old, the same exact age as when Sharapova started her own memorable Wimbledon run in '05, takes it to a special level of unbelievable.
To punctuate such a unique slice of sports history, Andreeva was so intensely locked in to winning the next point after already hitting match point that she wasn't even aware she no longer needed points.
Seriously.
Some combination of great innocence and an insane level of focus led to Andreeva hilariously going right back to set up and prepare for the next serve from Navarro—who had just punched another one into the net—without realizing she had already won the match.

With everyone in the crowd sounding well aware of the circumstances, including her team of coaches seen doing their very best to wave her on in, Andreeva quickly made a beeline toward the net to greet an awaiting and amused Navarro, who came across as completely understanding of this classic "lost in the madness" moment.
Somehow, the 18-year-old was hardly finished with her memorable performance, putting on a media masterclass during her live, post-match interview.
"I was super nervous before playing my first time on Centre Court." Andreeva began. "I really tried my best not to look over there in the box [at tennis royalty Roger Federer and wife Mirka in the front row] because I knew that as soon as I looked there I would completely lose my focus ... Honestly it means a lot to me that you came and watched my match. And it's been one of my dreams to see you in real life."

After the crowd was done with initial laughter that grew into resounding applause, Andreena finished with the following gem:
"So yeah, when I saw both of you I got really, really nervous. But I'm just super happy that I managed to keep playing focused, and I just wanted to say real quick, Mirka, you look really pretty. I really like your outfit."
The smiles and appreciation shown from Roger Federer and wife Mirka kind of says it all.
Up next for the 18-year-old Andreena is Belinda Bencic, who upset No. 17-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova on Monday in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.
That match is scheduled for an early start on Wednesday, July 9, on ESPN at 6 a.m. ET, which means weather—like swirling winds—could potentially play a factor just as it did during Monday's early slate.
But make no mistake about it, in her just her third time playing in Wimbledon, Andreeva is on an incredibly impressive run.

Yes, that was a ridiculous 26-shot exchange between Navarro and Andreeva, before the latter finally earned the thrilling point.
