Iconic Restaurant Announces It Will Permanently Close July 31
It's always a sad thing when a local restaurant closes its doors, but that's even more so the case when that spot has been around so long that it's iconic. It's part of a normal trajectory, though, for restaurants to open and close, even if they are establishments loved by the community.
In a January 2025 feature for Forbes, Giorgio Rapicavoli, chef and owner of Luca Osteria and Eating House in Miami, FL, talked about food trends for 2025 and made a prediction. "For 2025, I see a continued growth in minimal intervention in food," Rapicavoli said. "Focusing on a 'less is more' mentality. How can we as chefs provide our guests with the most flavor with the least amount of ingredients."
Rapicavoli added, "As the industry continues to grow, so do our purveyors, and working hand in hand with them will allow us to source better quality products which in turn will yield more delicious food."
Now, one popular restaurant is ending its dine-in service for good. But, on a brighter note, this restaurant will still offer catering services.
My 2 Cents is a Los Angeles has been a popular spot for soul food. The restaurant was founded in 2013 by Alisa Reynolds and her pastry chef sister, Theresa Fountain, according to Los Angeles Eater. "After the restaurant closes on July 31, it will transition into a catering operation while producing a line of products and merchandise," the Los Angeles Eater states. "Reynolds told the Los Angeles Times that the shift is something she’s been considering for years, and looks forward to feeding people in their homes and doing pop-ups."
"Whether you’ve been with us for years or just found us through a plate of peach cobbler or an Instagram scroll, your support will always be the heartbeat of everything we do," the restaurant stated on social media, adding that they "fed the city with love, one plate at a time." So, it's onto a new chapter for My 2 Cents.
