Tottenham's interest is 'more advanced' that Newcastle in race for Premier League star
Newcastle United are stepping up their pursuit of Yoane Wissa, but Tottenham Hotspur still hold the advantage in the race for the Brentford striker at the moment.
Wissa was one of the best forwards on show in the English top-flight last campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 35 Premier League matches.
With the Bees star now in the final year of his contract, unsurprisingly, he is now emerging as one of the most sought-after strikers of the summer transfer window.
It emerged last weekend that Tottenham had opened talks over a deal for Wissa, but since then, the race for the Bees star has intensified.
It was claimed by GiveMeSport two days ago that Newcastle may turn their attention to Wissa if they are unable to sign Hugo Ekitike, and that is now reportedly coming to pass.

According to a new report in BBC Sport, the Magpies are now expected to accelerate their move for the Brentford star.
This is because Newcastle have seen their £70m offer for Ekitike turned down, and Liverpool are now circling over the Eintracht Frankfurt international.
Eddie Howe’s men are thus ready to challenge Spurs and Nottingham Forest for Wissa’s signature, and they are set to ramp up their interest.
However, the report claims that at this stage, Tottenham’s and Forest’s interest in the DR Congo international is more advanced than Newcastle’s.
Brentford remain resolute regarding Wissa
BBC Sport say that the West London club remain adamant that they do not want to lose the centre-forward this summer.
However, the 28-year-old is thought to be open to leaving the Gtech Community Stadium for a chance to play in the Champions League.
This report follows an update by Football Insider a couple of days ago, which claimed that Brentford are demanding £50m for Wissa.
