WHO: Staff Housing and Warehouse Attacked by Israeli Forces in Gaza

Israeli forces attacked staff housing and a warehouse in Gaza, causing damage and disrupting humanitarian operations amid ongoing regional conflict tensions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that its staff housing and main medical supply warehouse in Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza, were targeted in Israeli military attacks. On Monday, July 21, the staff residence was bombed three times, causing extensive fires and damage, and putting the lives of WHO employees and their families—including children—at serious risk.

During the clashes, Israeli forces entered the staff building, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot toward the Al-Mawasi area. Meanwhile, men were handcuffed and subjected to interrogation and searches on-site.

Following these events, 32 individuals—including women and children—were relocated to a nearby WHO office for safety. However, this office remains close to ongoing fighting and continues to face security threats.

Earlier on Sunday, the WHO’s main warehouse for medical supplies in Deir al-Balah was struck by an explosion and fire due to an Israeli attack, further jeopardizing the delivery of critical aid in Gaza.

Currently, 88% of Gaza’s territory is under evacuation orders or designated as military zones, leaving virtually no safe areas for civilians.

The repeated targeting of WHO facilities highlights the heightened dangers facing humanitarian workers in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict. Protecting medical personnel and ensuring safe access to aid are urgent international priorities.

Without secure facilities and unimpeded humanitarian access, providing essential medical aid in Gaza becomes nearly impossible, worsening the humanitarian crisis and endangering countless lives.
