'Wizards' Finale Shocker: Selena Gomez Gets [SPOILER] Amid Major Twist in Disney Channel Series

The season two finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is officially out now and there’s a shocking twist at the end for Selena Gomez‘s character Alex Russo.

While Selena is an executive producer on the follow-up to her breakout Disney Channel series, she only has been making guest appearances instead of appearing a series regular.

In the continuation series, David Henrie‘s Justin Russo had chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, until his sister Alex shows up with Billie seeking help. Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities — and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.

The season two finale revealed that Selena‘s character Alex is actually Billie’s mom. She wiped everyone’s memory of this fact when she dropped Billie off at wizards boarding school when she was younger, all to keep her hidden from her evil grandfather.

While trying to fight off Billie’s grandfather Morsus, Alex tears up and a drop falls on a Penwolf locket, which causes her secret to be revealed to everyone.

After Alex and Billie’s mother-daughter connection is revealed, they only had moments together because Alex then sacrificed her life.

Alex pushes Morsus through a portal and lets it close behind them. She’s now dead… allegedly.

David seemingly shut this down and left the possibility of a return open. He tweeted, “Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think – and there’s a lot more to come. You’re asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves.”

In a recent interview, Selena explained why she decided to return for the sequel series.
