Slovenia coach questions Man Utd over Sesko injury – journalist shares encouraging update

Striker Benjamin Sesko picked up a suspected knee injury in Manchester United’s enthralling 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Slovenian came on as a substitute just before the hour mark, replacing Noussair Mazraoui, but came off before full-time after picking up an injury.

While the length of the injury has yet to be disclosed, Sesko will miss Slovenia’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden.

Head coach Matjaz Kek is unhappy with the way United has handled the 22-year-old’s old situation.

In quotes relayed by the Daily Mail, Kez said: “With all due respect to a great club like Manchester United, we have officially not received anything yet; no papers, no documents.

“We would certainly like to get them. We want our medical team to also take a look at it. Our doctor is an expert in this field. We don’t have just anyone in this position.

“I cannot comment, of course I have certain information, and I am also in contact with Beni, of course. I can’t say anything because officially we don’t know anything at all. United haven’t contacted anyone from our camp. Of course, I am concerned about the player; the only thing that matters to me is his wellbeing.’

“We are prepared to do everything for that, and we have never sent anyone onto the field if there was the slightest risk. However, the national team is something very special, and I expect maximum respect from everyone.

“Slovenia deserves that, even if on the other side, there is a powerhouse like England, and something as extraordinary as the Premier League. After all, it has been quite some time since England defeated Slovenia, and that in itself says something about us.”

Sesko’s absence is a big blow for Slovenia as they are aiming to rescue their World Cup qualification hopes.

They have collected just three points from four games and must win their last two matches and hope other results go their way to qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the ‘internal feeling’ is that Sesko will not be sidelined for long.

With the Slovenian being on the mend, Joshua Zirkzee is now the only natural striker available at manager Ruben Amorim’s disposal.

The Dutchman has played four league games this term. It remains to be seen whether Sesko’s injury will force Amorim to give Zirkzee more game time.
