St. John’s continues dominance of Georgetown

Zuby Ejiofor led five double digit scorers as St John's got its first true road win of the season to bring 2025 to a close as the Red Storm downed Georgetown 95-83 on Wednesday night in Washington, DC.

Ejiofor finished with 25 points on 7-for-9 shooting and added in 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block. Oziyah Sellers (16 points), Ian Jackson (14 points), Joson Sanon (13 points) and Dylan Darling (11 points) rounded out the high scoring for St. John's (9-4, 2-0 Big East).

The Red Storm harassed Georgetown (9-5, 1-2) throughout, scoring 15 points off 12 Hoyas turnovers. They were efficient on the other end of the floor shooting 30-for-60 from the field (50%) and making a season-high 15 3-pointers.

This was St. John's first win on New Year's Eve since 1960. The Red Storm had previously lost 10 in a row.

KJ Lewis finished with 27 points and Malik Mack turned in 18 points and eight assists for the Hoyas who dropped their 10th straight to the Red Storm.

Darling hit two dead-on 3-pointers for a quick 8-0 spurt and St. John's opened up a 73-58 lead with 11:45 left to play.

Hopkins notched a mid-range jumper and Jackson hit a 3-pointer to open up the Red Storm's biggest lead of the night. Ejiofor hit a free throw and St John's led 91-69 with 3:24 to play.

Both teams came out the gates red-hot from 3-point range with the Hoyas and Red Storm combining to make seven of the first 10 shots from behind the arc.

After a back-and-forth first few minutes, Georgetown forced St John's into a nearly four-minute scoring drought and opened up a 9-0 run for a 22-17 lead nine minutes in.

The Hoyas opened up a first half-high seven-point lead, but the Red Storm immediately answered with a 13-3 run to retake the lead. Sellers made a 3 and a pull-up jumper and Ejiofor made a pair of free throws for a 41-38 lead with 4:08 left in the half.

Both Sellers (13 points) and Ejiofor (17 points) were a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in the first half to help St. John's head into the break with a 52-47 lead. The Red Storm had 10 offensive rebounds and 14 second-chance points in the first half.
