Tottenham have bid rejected for Destiny Udogie back-up amid £14.8m price tag

Tottenham Hotspur’s opening offer for a highly-rated 19-year-old has been turned down as they seek to find cover for Destiny Udogie.

It has been reported by Alasdair Gold that Tottenham want to reinforce the whole of the left side of the pitch across this transfer window and the next.

Destiny Udogie’s constant injury problems, allied with Ben Davies’ contract running out in the summer, mean that a new left-back is a necessity for the Lilywhites.

It has now emerged that the North Londoners pushed ahead with an offer for a teenage left-back, but their move was rebuffed.

Tottenham’s offer for Brazilian starlet is sent back

According to journalist Lucas Musetti, Tottenham made a move to sign Santos starlet Souza.

Despite being just 19 years of age, Souza has already made 38 senior appearances for Santos, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

Tottenham Hotspur became the latest club to make a concrete move for the youngster, but the Brazilian club sent back the North London club’s offer.

It is revealed that Santos told the Premier League side that they would have to pay €17m (£14.8m) for 70 per cent of the player’s economic rights.

Souza is not expected to move in January

Musetti explains that Tottenham’s offer fell well short of what Santos are demanding, which is why a transfer does not appear to be on the cards.

It is revealed that the Brazilian club believe that the left-back’s value is going to increase over the next few years and have no intention of weakening their squad ahead of the new season.

Santos have already turned down approaches from AC Milan and Chelsea for Souza, and with the teenager contracted to the club until 2028, a January move is deemed unlikely.
