The Hollywood Reporter asked Steve about Bryan‘s claim in a new interview and Steve said, simply, “no.” He laughed when the reporter told him that the claim came from Bryan himself.
“Oh, really!? Cranston is so awesome, but I find that hard to believe. I think Cranston is lying!” he said, adding that Bryan is “in London right now doing a play, and I’m shooting in London, so I’m going to go talk to him.”
The 69-year-old Malcolm in the Middle alum has brought up Steve‘s name in connection to Breaking Bad even before his 2016 book.
Back in 2012, he told Rolling Stone that he’d heard Steve was up for the part.
“If Steve Zahn did Walter, we’d go, ‘Oh, my God. Steve Zahn is the guy! Can you imagine anybody but Steve Zahn doing it?’ And you wouldn’t be able to,” Bryan said at the time.
Bryan will return as Hal in the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle reboot. Watch the trailer here!
