Mulli hails conducive business environment for local enterprises

Mulli Brothers Limited (MBL) Holdings has hailed the prevailing business environment in Malawi, saying it is increasingly supportive of indigenous enterprises and is contributing to the company’s sustained growth.

Speaking during a thanksgiving prayer service held at the company’s headquarters in Chigumula, Blantyre, MBL Holdings Chairperson Leston Mulli said government efforts to create a more enabling environment for business are beginning to bear fruit.

Mulli noted that although the company has faced challenges in recent years—including arrests and prolonged legal disputes—it has remained resilient and optimistic about the country’s economic direction.

“No country can develop if its business environment does not favor local enterprises,” Mulli told Media, adding that supportive policies and public confidence are essential for the growth of indigenous businesses, particularly those engaged in exports.

He called on both government and the general public to continue supporting local companies, saying such patronage is key to spurring national development.

Former Minister of Finance Ken Lipenga, who attended the prayers, echoed the sentiments, urging government to sustain collaboration with the private sector, which he described as the backbone of economic development.

“Across the world, private companies like Mulli Brothers Holdings are critical for development. The country cannot develop without meaningful private sector involvement,” Lipenga said.

The prayer service marked the commencement of MBL Holdings’ 2026 operations and drew attendance from officials of the CCAP Blantyre Synod, business leaders and company employees.

MBL Holdings Chaplain, Reverend Professor Billy Gama, said the company’s 2026 theme is inspired by Numbers 23:8: “How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the Lord has not denounced?”

The event also featured a motivational address by the Very Reverend Boniface Tamani.
