'I shouldn't have said that': Ex-MLB pitcher caught harassing day care in search of fraud

A doorbell camera captured footage of a former professional baseball player recently harassing a day care center in Ohio, allegedly in search of "fraud."

In the video, shared by The Tennessee Holler on X, former MLB pitcher John Rocker approached the daycare center with two associates, one of whom was holding a camera to record the incident. The other rings the doorbell as Rocker climbs the stairs.

Rocker also shared several videos of himself visiting other local day care centers on his X feed.

Rocker then says, "Hello? Housekeeping," in a bad Spanish accent before ringing the doorbell again.

"Is this thing bulletproof?" Rocker asks the cameraman, pointing to the front door. "I guess we're about to find out."

"They can't chuck a spear through this thing, can they?" he continued. "I shouldn't have said that right there."

Rocker rang the doorbell once more before turning to leave.

The incident occurred about a week after a right-wing YouTuber published a video that allegedly showed fraud at Somali-run daycare centers in Minneapolis, which has a large Somali population. Experts have debunked several claims made in the video, and reporting has revealed that it was likely staged by Republican operatives.

The video has inspired several copycat incidents, like the one involving Rocker.

Rocker gained notoriety in the 1990s for his bigoted statements. In a 1999 Sports Illustrated interview, Rocker attacked immigrants, gay people, and various minority groups.

“The biggest thing I don’t like about New York are the foreigners," he said at the time. "I’m not a very big fan of foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?”
