Banished Traitors Star Admits Having Mixed Feelings About Her 'Kamikaze' Exit

Banished Traitors contestant Harriet Tyce has opened up about her shock exit from the castle in Wednesday night’s episode.

After claiming to have been gathering evidence over a series of days, the most recent instalment of The Traitors began with Harriet accusing Rachel of being a Traitor in front of the whole group over breakfast. 

The writer and former barrister also revealed her true occupation to her castmates, having previously kept it quiet.

However, after failing to convince a lot of them of Rachel’s Traitor status during Wednesday’s round table, she urged the group to “vote for me” if they did not believe that Rachel was a Traitor, acknowledging that while this could be considered a “kamikaze” move, she wanted them to see just how convinced she was about her theory.

Unfortunately, her somewhat overzealous behaviour just made the contestants suspect her more, despite her having previously been a strong and trustworthy Faithful.

In the end, she earned 10 votes, and was banished from the castle, confirming to the group that she was a Faithful on the way out.

Speaking to The Mirror in an interview published after her banishment aired, Harriet insisted she had no major regrets about her actions, even though she would have liked to have stayed on the show longer.

“On the one hand, I’m gutted not to have got further,” she told the outlet. “I haven’t won therefore I’ve lost so it’s hard not to see it that way. But on the other hand, I could not have asked for more action!”

Harriet continued: “I was given some opportunities there, I created other opportunities for myself and as I said, Faithfuls have very little control.

“In all of that I managed to find a way of fighting as myself and leaving on my own terms and I really don’t think many other people who’ve been through the game can say that. If I were to swap with being there in the final but being duped, I’d take my short-lived game any day.”

Asked if she would have done anything differently in the castle, she admitted she “would have tried to have been less emotional, but it’s almost impossible” and was proud she “demonstrated integrity”.

Harriet also claimed it had been a spontaneous decision to put her neck on the line at the round table.

“It was halfway through after Matt made his accusation against me and I started to defend myself with some force. I was really going to give it a go and then I thought; you know what? I don’t want to do this. It was the first time I’d been under suspicion in two weeks, and I didn’t like the feeling,” she explained. 

While Harriet’s self-professed “kamikaze move” led to her exit, there was some relief to her action.

“Suddenly all the tension left me, and it was a relief after so much high emotion,” she said.

The episode ended with the two remaining Traitors opting to kill another Faithful rather than recruit anyone, with a cliffhanger ending seeing them contemplating whether it would be James, Adam, or Jessie who they murdered, unaware exactly which of them had shields thanks to that day’s mission.

The Traitors continues on BBC One at 8pm Thursday, with episodes airing each week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
