Why We Love This Deal
After a couple of action-packed sale events over the holidays, REI is back at it with major discounts on outdoor gear from top brands. Although we're not seeing quite the same selection—there are no new markdowns from Fjallraven or Kuhl, for example—there are many surprises. One of them is this gritty Keen hiking shoe. It's dropped to half its normal price, which is the lowest price we've ever seen.
The Keen 450 Dirt Sneakers are down to just $85, a 50% discount. Previously, Men's Journal spotted this trail shoe in this particular color at Nordstrom Rack for $90, and it quickly sold out. It makes sense, though: These shoes are adored by customers—they've earned a 4.7-star rating after more than 70 reviews, and shoppers say they have "solid" grip and unmatched comfort. They are available in sizes 8 through 13, and like the Rack, we imagine these will fly off the shelves at REI now that they're such a steal.

Keen is perhaps best known for its Targhee series of hiking boots, but nearly all of its shoes have that trail shoe sensibility. The 450 is made with an all-terrain footbed and deep treads for accurate traction. Plus, their tops are made of a highly breathable material, giving some much-needed breathability when you're really hustling.
This looks like a trail running shoe, but at almost 13 ounces, we think options like the Hoka Speedgoat or Brooks' Catamount would be better suited. Despite that, this is a tried and true trail shoe we'd hike for hours in and trust not to cause foot fatigue, a common theme among Keen hiking shoes.
Crucially, this model is not the waterproof one. If you're looking for protection, that model is 40% off over on Keen's site right now. Instead, this is the one you want moving into spring as the weather begins to warm up.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One shopper said the 450 Dirt Sneakers were “outstanding” and “the closest thing to floating I’ve experienced with a shoe. Exceptionally comfortable, even after a full day’s use.”
Another shopper confirmed that they were great for all types of terrain. “These are the best! I have been wearing these for about a month now. These are great on trails or if you just want to wear them around town.”
You won’t be able to get the Keen 450 Dirt Sneakers for $85 forever. We’re already starting to see reserves dwindle in some sizes, so pick this pair of shoes up fast to get the appropriate size.
