Confirmed Man Utd team news vs Man City: Carrick delivers worrying update on £42.9m star ahead of derby
Manchester United will face Manchester City at Old Trafford in a highly anticipated Premier League clash tomorrow.
United new caretaker head coach Michael Carrick has dropped the team news ahead of the all-important Manchester Derby.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “We’ve had a good week really.
“Matthijs de Ligt has been carrying a bit of an issue but, hopefully, we’ll get him back in some time soon.
“It’s been a little bit slower than what they thought previously.
“All in all, the boys are in good shape. I just feel the energy, whether it’s fresh or not! Obviously, I’m delighted to be here.
“I want to work a certain way, I want to enjoy what we do and work hard to get success. The boys have put the work in this week and we feel we’re ready.”
Matthijs de Ligt last played in November and has been on the sidelines due to a back injury.
Former United manager Ruben Amorim described the injury as not a big issue but the £42.9 million signing has since missed a surprising number of games.
A positive update for the Red Devils is the return of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo.
Their respective national sides were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the quarter-finals.
Mbeumo could be immediately drafted into the starting XI.
Noussair Mazraoui is still unavailable as his side Morocco prepare to face Senegal in the final.
Shea Lacey has put in exciting cameos but will unfortunately miss the derby clash after picking up two yellow cards in the FA Cup defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Carrick is expected to set up his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation, a system he primarily used during his managerial spell at Middlesbrough.
