If A Kid Mentions You're Someone's 'Choppelganger', It's Not Exactly A Compliment

Step aside six-seven, an unusual new term is already picking up steam among Gen Alpha – and it’s pretty creative, albeit super harsh. 

‘Choppelganger’ is a portmanteau of ‘chopped’, typically used by teens to describe someone as ugly; and ‘doppelganger’, which is a person who resembles someone else. 

What does choppelganger mean?

Well, you can probably guess...

Teacher and content creator Mr Philip Lindsay can often be found explaining the sayings kids come out with – he helpfully explained what on earth six-seven meant back when it first started doing the rounds.

The teacher mentioned recently that one of his students had said he was Kirk Cousins’ choppelganger.

“A choppelganger ... is the uglier version of the doppelganger. In other words, it’s the off brand lookalike,” explained Mr Lindsay in a reel. 

He added, “I guarantee you will be hearing it from your teens in the very near future”.

Unsurprisingly, kids love it

And it turns out some parents have already heard the term uttered from their kids’ lips. One commenter said: “My kids told me I was Uncle Fester’s Choppleganger…”

Wow.

Another suggested that instead of saying ‘choppelganger’, their kids describe someone as “the Temu version of” someone else. (Temu is known for selling heavily discounted goods.)

On the whole though people were pretty impressed with the creativity behind this newly-coined term – despite it being a massive diss. 

“Actually pretty clever,” said one commenter on the teacher’s video. “The creativity of this slang is amazing & I’m here for it,” added another. 

Some parents shared they’ll be adopting the phrase to instantly make it unappealing to their kids.

“I love when you post the new ‘hot’ words/phrases. I make a point to use them first to make them so uncool,” said a commenter.

To be honest, that’s not a bad shout.
