David Beckham Says 'Children Make Mistakes' In First Interview Since Brooklyn's Posts

Sir David Beckham has shared some well-timed comments about the “mistakes” that people can make on social media.

On Tuesday morning, the former England striker made an appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, just hours after his eldest son Brooklyn Peltz Beckham spoke out for the first time about falling out with his parents.

In a series of social media posts, Brooklyn claimed he had no intention of reconciling with his parents, Sir David and Victoria Beckham, who he accused of “controlling” and “performative” behaviour, as well as trying to “ruin” his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

While at the World Economic Forum, Sir David gave an interview with CNBC’s Squawk Box in which he spoke about the dangers of social media.

“I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for Unicef and it’s been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children,” he said.

Sir David continued: “I’ve tried to do the same. I’ve tried to do the same with my children to educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn.

“That’s what I try to teach my kids. But you know, you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.”

On his way into the event, Sir David was bombarded with questions specifically about Brooklyn’s allegations, but brushed them off completely.

In his posts, Brooklyn accused his mum Victoria of pulling out of designing Nicola’s wedding dress at the eleventh hour before their big day, and “hijacking” his first dance during the reception, leaving him the most “uncomfortable” and “humiliated” he’d felt in his “entire life”.
