Serie A | Lecce 0-0 Lazio: Crossbar denies victory for Salentini
Lecce had more scoring opportunities and rattled the crossbar, but both they and Lazio will be disappointed with this goalless draw.
Both teams were struggling badly in 2026, as Lecce had just one point in six rounds, missing Francesco Camarda, Medon Berisha, Balthazar Pierret and suspended Kialonda Gaspar, but Danilo Veiga returned from his ban. The Aquile were not faring much better, fresh from a painful 3-0 home defeat to Como, with one win in their last six. Danilo Cataldi was suspended, with Nicolò Rovella, Samuel Gigot and Gil Patric injured, but Toma Basic and Matias Vecino returned, with Boulaye Dia’s first game since AFCON. Alessio Romagnoli started despite being on the verge of a move to Al-Sadd.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
Santiago Pierotti flashed his finish across the face of goal after 60 seconds, while Ivan Provedel got down to palm away the ferocious Lassana Coulibaly strike from distance.
Lecce had the better of the first half and were unlucky not to take the lead when Ylber Ramadani’s scorcher from distance bounced off the underside of the crossbar.
The first genuine chance for the visitors came on 54 minutes when Dia went sliding in on the Mattia Zaccagni through ball, finding Wladimiro Falcone bravely rushing off his line.
Walid Cheddira made his Lecce debut just days after the transfer from Sassuolo and slipped when drilling wide, while Riccardo Sottil’s free kick stung Provedel’s gloves.
There were chances at both ends in the final minute, as first Omri Gandelman failed to get on the end of a Sottil pull-back, then Kenneth Taylor bent a finish just wide on the counter-attack started by Gustav Isaksen. With the last kick of the game, a Taylor attempt was deflected wide off his own teammate.
