Kate Walsh Shares Emotional Message of Support for Eric Dane & His Family Amid His ALS Battle
Kate Walsh has returned to Grey’s Anatomy to scrub in as fan-favorite character Dr. Addison Montgomery once again.
In the wake of her big return in the tenth episode of season 22, Kate sat down for an interview with Variety and opened up about her character’s past relationship with Mark Sloan, played by actor Eric Dane, who is currently undergoing a public battle with ALS.
The interviewer mentioned that several past and present Grey’s actors—like Patrick Dempsey recently—have been in touch with Eric and asked if she’s had the chance to talk to him.

Kate said that while she hasn’t been in touch, she has “reached out” and sent her love and support.
“It’s so painful. It’s really sad. I haven’t been in touch with him, but I’ve reached out and sent my love and support and strength. It’s so heartbreaking,” she shared. “He’s such a beautiful person and such an incredible man, and I’ve had other friends that have battled with this disease, and it’s just horrific. So my heart goes out to him. I keep him, his family, his girls, in my prayers.”
The relationship between Addison and Mark was a core part of early Grey’s.
“Your characters, Addison and Mark, will forever be intertwined not only in the Grey’s universe, but in TV history,” said Variety reporter Max Gao.
In response, Kate said, “I know. That’s why it’s so heartbreaking to me, so emotional.”
