‘There’s no better feeling’: Patriots’ Super Bowl QB advocates marrying young

As today’s pro-life movement advocates not only against abortion but for marriage and procreation, a young NFL star getting ready to take the field in Super Bowl LX Sunday is sharing his own enthusiasm for the institution of matrimony, especially embracing it at a young age.

Drake Maye, quarterback of the New England Patriots, set to meet the Seattle Seahawks in the big game in a few days, married his childhood sweetheart, Ann Michael, last June at age 22. Fox News reports Maye talked on Monday about how he would advise all of his teammates to get married at some point in their lives.

Said Maye: “My teammates have a right to do whatever they choose. I definitely would advise them to eventually get married. It’s one of the best things in life. It’s one of the best things I’ve experienced in my life. There’s no better feeling than coming home to a wife that loves you and cares for you and worried about your best interests.

“I know my teammates, some of them are experiencing different parts of their life in what stages. But I chose to get married young and I don’t regret it one bit.”

The report points out that Drake and Ann Michael Maye dated since 2015, in seventh grade, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Maye has become a favorite of the Pats’ fan base, partly based on her skills in the kitchen, specifically baking, as she typically provides treats for her husband on game day.

Many societal observers have noted the demographic and cultural harm done by a consistently falling marriage and fertility rate. Columnist Don Feder pointed out last weekend that in 2024, for the first time in U.S. history, a majority of women ages 18 to 44 weren’t married, twice the number of the early 1980s.

Writes Feder: “We live in an age when many young men would rather stay at home playing video games than go out and socialize. Women are terrified of losing their independence by having a man in their lives. Both think children will compromise their independence.

“They need a wake-up call from reality. They will regret it if they go into their 40s isolated and alone. They can work 60-hour weeks, adopt a ‘fur baby,’ throw themselves into a cause. (Attacking federal agents?) Then what?”

Maye, a devout Christian, is a candidate for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player honor.
