Olympic Skiers Have Some Pretty Cool Sponsors, We're Jealous
It's no secret that brands love capitalizing on the many advertising opportunities provided to them by the Olympics.
After all, what better way to sell cereal and energy drinks than with the face of your favorite Olympic skier?
On the flip side, these brand endorsements are also a great way for skiers (and athletes of all kinds!) to get paid. While some ski brands certainly have money, it's usually pennies compared to, say, a car company.
So, many skiers turn to non-endemics, or brands that aren't specific to the sport, for extra sponsor dollars. While some might make us giggle, it's great to see these athletes get paid for the hard work they put into their sport.
As skiers are posting more about their sponsors leading into the Winter Games next week, here are a few sponsorships we wouldn't mind having ourselves.

- Alex Hall, Acuvue Contact Lenses: Contact lenses, especially daily ones, are expensive and unfortunately for some of us, kind of essential. Alex Hall snagged himself an Acuvue sponsorship and even though I don’t wear Acuvue, I’m pretty jealous of this one. The real question is if my eyesight wasn’t so bad, would I be able to ski like Alex Hall? (Definitely not, the answer is no.)
- Mikaela Shiffrin, Barilla Pasta: Forget an energy drink sponsor, if I got free pasta all the time like Mikaela Shiffrin with her Barilla sponsor, I’d be living large. Penne for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, baby. After all, carbs are the fuel athletes need.
- Eileen Gu, Tiffany & Co: I’m not so much envious of Eileen Gu’s Tiffany & Co brand partnership as much as in awe. You thought your smartwatch sponsorship was cool? Eileen Gu’s comes with diamonds. If that’s not high level as heck, I don’t know what is.

- Alex Hall: Rao’s: Every so often, when I’m feeling too lazy to cook, I’ll grab some kind of ready-made meal and call it a night. To be honest, more often than not, that involves me boiling an egg and throwing it on top of a cheap instant ramen. But sucking down some of the fancier stuff, like a Rao’s chicken noodle soup? That’s better. It’s also why, like Alex Hall, I wish I was good enough at skiing to get a Rao’s deal. My pantry could use some love—and soup.
- The US Ski Team, J. Crew: Technically, this deal isn’t an individual sponsorship. But it has resulted in the US Ski Team, from Rell Harwood to River Radamus, rocking some threads I want. It would be easy for a brand like J. Crew to whiff a ski-centric collection. But they clearly tapped people who understand the mountain atmosphere, particularly its retro side. I, for one, wouldn’t mind getting a cord-collared polo shirt in the mail—without whipping out my credit card, that is.

- Nick Goepper, Perfect North Slopes: Nick Goepper has made a name for himself as a World Cup-winning slopestyle and halfpipe skier with multiple Olympic appearances to his name. He’s done ads for Sonic, tax filing sites, Toyota, and Pit Viper, but my favorite sponsor is his humble home ski area of Perfect Slopes, Indiana. Yes, Goepper grew up skiing in Indiana, and yes, they’re one of his main sponsors. If that’s not some good ol-fashioned Midwestern niceness, then I don’t know what is.
- Paula Moltzan, Lawson’s Finest Liquid: Beer. Paula Moulsen has a beer sponsor, and I’m extremely jealous. And it’s not just another big-name light beer, no. Moulsen is sponsored by and has her own IPA, Paula’s World, with Lawson’s, a Vermont microbrewery that makes some of the best beer this skier has ever had. Try some if you’re in New England.
- River Radamus, Celsius Energy: I tried to like coffee. Really, I did, but there’s something about hot bean water that I can’t stomach on a regular basis. Sue me. I’m not above a healthy caffeine addiction, however. Instead, I’ve turned to energy drinks, and River Radamus’ lucrative deal with Celsius seems like one I wouldn’t mind having. Celsius, if you’re reading this, the Cherry Cola flavor is my favorite. Just saying…

This one isn’t as much specific to skiers, but I looked through the official Team USA Sponsor page for some good laughs. There are, of course, the classics: Coca-Cola, VISA, Samsung, and Allianz. But digging a little deeper, some pretty hilarious things come up. I mean props to the ad agencies and marketing departments who made these deals happen.
Sunbelt Rentals? Guess these athletes might need to rent some serious construction equipment for their new mansions if they win gold medals.
What about Archer Air Taxis? That’s some seriously futuristic ish right there.
