25-Foot Swell Incoming for Thriller at Killers Big Wave Surf Contest
The Big Game may be on Sunday, but on Saturday, the big wave world will turn its eyes to Todos Santos for the annual Thriller at Killers surf contest.
Event organizers have given the official greenlight for the event to kickoff at 7:00am on February 7th at the famed Todos Santos island off Ensenada.
See below for the official call.
The Surfline forecast is calling for a W/WNW swell on Saturday at Todos Santos, with peak wave heights in the 20-to-25-foot range. And it should provide ample time for the event to go down with forecasters declaring: “No shortage of waves all day.”
On the men’s side, invitees to this year’s event include: Cody Purcell, Nic Lamb, Eric Nicholson, Greg Long, Quetzal Estrada, Chase Jacoway, Andres Flores, and Christian Hatfield. Wildcard entrants are as follows: Wilem Banks, Lucas Chianca, Landon McNamara, and Jojo Roper.
As for the women, the invitees are Katie McConnell and Paige Alms. The wildcards include: Zoe Chait, Justine Dupont, Isabelle Leonhardt, and Bianca Valenti.
In today’s big wave world, there aren’t many events like the Thriller at Killers. Many of the traditional heavy water competitions have faded away, which makes this one all the more special. For more information on the event, here’s the breakdown:
“Thriller at Killers is a big-wave surf competition founded by Gary Linden and presented by Punta Brava Golf & Surf Club. It’s comprised of a one-day Main Event during a January-February swell window and a Digital Qualifier, which provides a platform for any surfer capable in big waves to earn an invite to the Main Event. This is more than just another competition — it’s a celebration of the adventurous spirit of surfing and the rich cultural heritage of the entire Bahia de Todos Santos region.”
Stay tuned. SURFER will be on the ground (in the boat, rather) providing real-time updates.
