Lee Broom displays sculptural tableau of light for Mexico City art week debut

British designer Lee Broom has marked his Mexico City art week debut with over 50 objects displayed throughout the 20th-century mansion showroom of local lighting company Diez Company.

Broom's pieces, from a variety of collections, are displayed throughout the Diez Company showroom for The Resident show in the Polanco neighbourhood, including a cascading Hail chandelier in a grand foyer, and cubic Chant lamps in a gold-painted bathroom.

"Marking his debut exhibition in Mexico, Broom has created an experiential installation in the historic Diez Company house, one of Mexico City's most architecturally distinguished showrooms, transforming the entire house into a sculptural tableau of light," said the team.

Over 50 of Broom's pieces are on display, along with artwork by Mexican artists curated by Broom and the Diez Company.

Broom told Dezeen that he worked with the Diez Company to select his own pieces for each room so that each "responds to both the natural daylight and the architectural details of the building".

"My exhibitions are always shaped by the architecture that hosts them, and this historic house became the starting point for the entire presentation," Broom told Dezeen.

"The work unfolds across a series of rooms, each with its own character, scale, and relationship to light. We focused on illumination that responds to both the natural daylight and the architectural details of the building, allowing the pieces to enhance the space while the house, in turn, amplifies the work."

Other work throughout the rooms includes pieces from Broom's Requiem collection, which feature plastered fabrics that drape over and around glowing orbs and a string of geometric, porcelain lights created with Spanish company Llardó.

Broom has recently displayed work at a variety of art and design weeks, including London Design Festival and 3 Days of Design.

The Diez Company was founded by Gina Diez Barroso and Rodrigo Fernández. The company opened its Polanco showroom in 2025, which features three storeys of displays dedicated to brands such as A-N-D and Bocci.

Other objects on display for this year's Mexico City art week include a two-in-one sofa and rug by Sabine Marcelis and lighting made with crushed-up shells by David Pompa.
