Mark Ruffalo Finally Addresses Rumors Marvel Fired Him

Mark Ruffalo sent shockwaves through the spines of Marvel fans when he said in an interview that he won't appear as The Hulk in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set for release at the end of this year.

Despite his absence, he seemed to make clear that there was no bad blood between himself and Marvel Studios. The 13 Going on 30 star said he was open to returning to the franchise. Nonetheless, the internet did what it does best: it speculated.

Now, the actor has addressed the rumors head-on. And fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

No, Marvel Did Not Fire Mark Ruffalo

While doing press for his new film Crime 101 — in which he stars with fellow Avenger, Thor aka Chris Hemsworth — Ruffalo and his co-stars sat down with The News Movement, and the interviewer asked him the question point blank. Did the green Hulk get the pink slip?

When asked, the Shutter Island star laughed and said, "Not that I know of."

"It's nonsense," Hemsworth added.

"We would protest," Halle Berry chimed in.

Ruffalo added, "I'll be there as long as they have me. But I have a good relationship with them. Who knows? There might be things I'm already doing that... I'm around, let me just say that."

At risk of potentially breaking an NDA, Ruffalo certainly made it sound like he'll be reprising his comic book role in a yet-to-be-announced project. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Ruffalo also appears as The Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Dayalongside both Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. (No word if Andrew Garfield makes a cameo.) That film is set to be released on July 31.

This Hulk/Spider-Man crossover has led to several fan theories as to why it's happening. "Hulk is in Spider-Man:Brand New Day because he’s the only one who remembers who Peter Parker is," one person theorized on Reddit. Another Redditor even wrote a multi-paragraph essay on the topic.
