More Than 22,000 Pounds of Raw Beef Recalled for Potential E. Coli Contamination

Three states have been warned about potentially contaminated ground beef following an announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Wednesday.

CS Beef Packers, LLC, based out of Idaho, in conjunction with the FSIS, has recalled approximately 22,912 pounds of raw ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O145. FSIS testing showed the presence of E. coli O145 in some of the meat.

What to know about this recall

The affected items were produced on Jan. 14, 2026 and disseminated to distributors in California, Idaho, and Oregon for further distribution to foodservice locations.          

Per the FSIS release, these are the three products that must be looked out for.

• Cardboard cases containing eight 10-lb. chubs of “BEEF, COARSE GROUND, 73 L” with case code 18601, “Use/Freeze By: 02/04/26” and time stamps between 07:03 and 08:32 printed on two stickers placed on the outside of the case. The date and time stamps are also printed directly onto the clear packaging of the chub.
• Cardboard cases containing four 10-lb. chubs of “FIRE RIVER FARMS CLASSIC BEEF FINE GROUND 73L” with case code 19583, “Use/Freeze By: 02/04/26” and time stamps between 07:03 and 08:32 printed on two stickers placed on the outside of the case. The date and time stamps are also printed directly onto the clear packaging of the chub.
• Cardboard cases containing four 10-lb. chubs of “FIRE RIVER FARMS CLASSIC BEEF FINE GROUND 81L” with case code 19563, “Use/Freeze By: 02/04/26” and time stamps between 07:03 and 08:32 printed on two stickers placed on the outside of the case. The date and time stamps are also printed directly onto the clear packaging of the chub.

You can find pictures of the packages here. Thankfully, as of Thursday morning, no illnesses related to the consumption of these ground beef products have been reported.

What to do if you have purchased these products

The FSIS urges customers to check if they have these products and dispose of them if they do.

The agency is also worried that some of the affected beef may still be in foodservice freezers.

"Foodservice locations are urged not to serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the FSIS said.

What to know about E. coli O145

Like the more common E. coli O157:H7, E. coli O145 is a kind of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). According to the CDC, people usually become ill within 2-8 days (average of 3-4 days) after consuming the organism.

Most people infected with STEC O26 experience diarrhea and vomiting, while some can develop illnesses that last longer and are more severe. Infection is usually diagnosed by stool sample.

“FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160 degrees F,” the news release says. “The only way to confirm that ground beef is cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures internal temperature.”
