Tim Sherwood has now questioned the upside of Igor Tudor’s role at Tottenham Hotspur as the former Juventus man aims to steady the ship in north London.

Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate for results to steady in the coming weeks following the appointment of former Juventus man Igor Tudor.

The club has made its objective clear, stating that it hopes Tudor stabilises performances, maximises the quality within the squad, and competes strongly in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Tim Sherwood addressed the risk attached to Igor Tudor taking the Tottenham Hotspur job, outlining both the potential upside and the severe downside tied to results.

He said: “If he beats Arsenal in the first game, everything’s happy. He might even get the job. There’d be a statue of him.

“It’s going to be difficult. He has no knowledge of the Premier League, and people will say, does that matter? It doesn’t matter if you’re taking a job at the top of the league, but you’re coming in.

“What is the upside for him? If he finishes 12th, he’s getting no credit. The downside is so catastrophic, would you want your fingerprints all over Tottenham getting relegated from the Premier League?

“Thomas Frank would still be there if it wasn’t for the toxic nature of the fans, and I can totally understand the disgruntlement of the fans, because they’re not getting the results.

“I heard people say they are sleepwalking into the Championship. I think they’ll have enough, even with the injuries, to get out of it, but he will get no credit for that.

“And the downside is so great, it can only fail. He’s getting no credit for keeping Tottenham in the league.”

North London derby sets early tone for Tudor spell

Tudor’s first order of business is to take on Arsenal in the north London derby, and that match will be significant for the club.

A win in his first game in charge will no doubt be a major boost for the former Juventus man as he aims to keep Spurs in the Premier League.

The 47-year-old will now be looking to meet the first-team squad as they attempt to see out the rest of the season.
