FGRF Targets 100,000 Families with Ramadan Food Relief Across Malawi

A faith based-humanitarian agency, Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) says it is targeting 100,000 families during the holy month of Ramadan with relief food packs aimed at easing the burden of fasting for vulnerable Muslim communities across Malawi.

Its Director for Public Relations and Projects, Ibrahim Omar Mataya, says the initiative has been rolled out in response to growing food insecurity affecting many households.

“We have started this initiative because we know people are suffering for basic food.

“We are targeting 100,000 families throughout Malawi to help them during fasting and ease their meals when they break their fast.”

Mataya explained that while the organization has been supporting the general public with large-scale donations over the past few months, the current drive is specifically designed to assist Muslims observing Ramadan.

“We have targeted general people throughout the past few months with big donations, but this one we are trying to assist the Muslims in their fasting. And we will be doing this throughout Malawi,” he said.

As of today, FGRF has reached a total of 5,500 families in the past three days alone. The beneficiaries include 1,700 families in Chikunda, 300 in Chiswe, and 3,500 families in Nsanje Fatima.

Speaking from Nsanje Fatima today, Mataya said 3,500 families are receiving food packs as part of the distribution exercise.

Each pack contains 10 kilograms of maize flour (ufa), one kilogram of sugar, one kilogram of rice, 250 grams of salt, and five packets of soya pieces.

The organization aims to progressively scale up distributions throughout the month of fasting to reach its 100,000-family target.

“The best of charity is feeding people,” Mataya said, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and compassion during Ramadan.
