Forget Malacia: Trusted 26yo Man Utd star produced his worst performance of the season vs Newcastle

A rare poor performance from Mbeumo

The former Brentford star has arguably been one of the standout signings of the Premier League season.

Mbeumo has taken United’s attack to a new level. He has already netted nine goals and three assists in 24 league appearances this campaign.

However, the 26-year-old endured arguably his most disappointing performance in a United shirt against Newcastle.

He managed only 76% passing accuracy and failed to complete a single one of his four attempted crosses.

The winger also lost possession on 12 occasions and squandered a promising opportunity created by Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese playmaker threaded a sublime through ball into Mbeumo’s path.

The Cameroonian timed his run perfectly but hesitated at the crucial moment. Instead of shooting, he attempted to square the ball for Benjamin Sesko, but Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw produced a vital block.

His most frustrating moment arrived when goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale parried a shot from Matheus Cunha directly into his path.

With the goal at his mercy from close range, Mbeumo blazed his effort high into the stands.

Tyrell Malacia made a big blunder at a decisive moment, but Mbeumo should have wrapped up the game earlier.
