This '80s Star Is Reportedly Unhappy About Planned Rob Reiner Oscars Tribute
Rob Reiner won't just be a slide during the "In Memoriam" segment at the 98th Oscars on Sunday, March 15. According to Daily Mail, The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap director will be getting his own tribute.
The tribute will reportedly include Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal from When Harry Met Sally, and Jerry O'Connell and Wil Wheaton from Stand By Me. But one Stand By Me star reportedly wasn't asked to be part of the tribute: Corey Feldman. And he's not happy about it.
Corey Feldman Is 'Devastated'
"Corey is devastated that he hasn't been asked to be a part of the tribute," a source told the outlet. "He loved Rob and expected to be asked, especially since Jerry and Wil were asked."
The situation is further complicated by the fact that Feldman, O'Connell, and Wheaton are currently touring theaters across the country for the 40th anniversary of Stand By Me. It's like finding out your two best friends were invited to a party and you weren't.
"The night should be about Rob and honoring him and Corey wants nothing more than to honor Rob, and the fact that he currently isn't allowed is an absolute slap in the face," the source said. "Even if he wasn't on the stage, he'd love to be there, to honor Rob."
Feldman's former co-stars reportedly reached out to the Academy on Feldman's behalf, only for the Academy to ghost them. "Jerry and Wil feel bad for their buddy and have tried to reason with the Academy that Stand By Me was an ensemble and Corey should be a part of the tribute," the source said, "but that currently doesn't seem to be the case for organizers and they are looking to snub him out."
Men's Journal has reached out to Feldman, O'Connell, and Wheaton for comment.
