iPic Theaters closing its sites in Westwood, Pasadena

The luxury dine-in movie theater chain iPic will shut down both of its Los Angeles County locations next month after filing for bankruptcy, with 193 employees losing their jobs in the process.

According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices sent to the state, the company will permanently cease all operations at both the Westwood site, at 10840 Wilshire Blvd., and at the Old Town Pasadena location, at 42 Miller Alley, on April 28.

The WARN notices also state that there will not be bumping rights for affected employees, and employees will not be able to displace more junior employees out of their job positions as a result of the closure.

In a news release, iPic Theaters stated that it has “made the strategic decision to pursue a court-supervised sale process through Chapter 11 to maximize value to all creditors.” It intends to pursue a sale of assets under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the Southern District of Florida and will continue to operate business pending a process to maximize value to all creditors.

In accordance with the filing, the company has issued WARN notices to all of its 1,300 employees letting them know they they may be laid off. Additional closures have also taken place in Washington, New Jersey and Georgia.

IPic Theaters is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida, and operates 13 locations across eight states throughout the country. It previously filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

“We are committed to continuing our business operations with minimal impact throughout the process and will endeavor to serve our customers with the high standard of care they have come to expect from us,” the company’s CEO, Patrick Quinn, said in a statement.

According to court documents filed last week, iPic Theaters reported a net loss of $20 million on $112.5 million in revenue and owes more than $2.5 million to vendors and workers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The bankruptcy filing comes amid the closures of several other movie theaters across Southern California and the nation.

Last month, AMC, California’s largest movie theater chain, announced that it plans to close more theaters as it continues to grapple with post-pandemic box office sales. The company reported a nearly 10% drop in theater attendance in the final quarter of 2025.

LOOK Dine-In Cinemas, an independent Texas-based movie theater chain, abruptly closed its locations in Downey, Redlands and Monrovia last month.

In 2023, Regal Cinemas theaters closed six locations in Southern California.

On the heels of the shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, audiences have increasingly turned to at-home streaming options, which has led to a decline in ticket sales at the box office.

“These industry shifts have directly reduced box office revenues and related ancillary revenues, including food and beverage sales,” iPic Theaters said in its bankruptcy filing.
