Reporter for Far-Left NPR Suprised by What He Finds in a Post-Maduro Venezuela: People Feel ‘Like a Weight has Been Lifted’
Eyder Peralta, a correspondent for far-left NPR, shared in a recent interview that he is ‘surprised’ by what he saw during a recent visit to a post-Maduro Venezuela.
In January, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and brought to the United States.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Maduro was indicted in the Southern District of New York on charges of Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X at the time, “Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.”
On Friday, Peralta shared his amazement following his recent trip to the country during a conversation with Steve Inskeep.
“It is absolutely surreal because you land at the airport, and the signs are in Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese, which tells you just where this country was facing a few months ago,” he shared.
“And then you go out on the streets, and people here tell you that they feel like a weight has been lifted. For the first time in a long time, there are street protests. Opposition groups are holding public meetings.”
“I was at the Justice Department building yesterday, and there was a group of protesters calling for all political prisoners to be released. Venezuela has passed an amnesty law, but it excluded anyone who called for a foreign intervention.
“And I met Edward Ocariz there, and he’s a former political prisoner. He has faced the wrath of this government. But then, right there in public, he taunted the government, ‘They call us traitors, he said, but look at them now.'”
“‘Now, it’s them who are not only kneeling,’ he’s saying, ‘but sleeping with the United States.'”
While leftists consistently side with tyrants over the people who suffer under their brutality, following Maduro’s capture, Venezuelans both inside and outside their homeland erupted in celebration.
From South Florida to Chile to Madrid, Venezuelans and all from all around the world took to the streets to rejoice.
