Arsenal want ‘powerful’ ‘dominant’ La Liga defender Berta admires, agent meeting planned
Arsenal are interested in recruiting the services of Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera during the summer transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Cadena SER.
The Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta wanted the 6ft 2in Spain youth international while he was at Atletico Madrid and is hoping to now land him for the North London club.
The agent of Mosquera will meet with Valencia in the coming days to tell them of his willingness to move on this summer, with Arsenal facing competition from the likes of Villarreal and Atletico also keen on the ‘powerful’ and ‘dominant’ defender.
Around €20 million could be enough for the Gunners to get the 20-year-old as he is out of contract next summer, and he could be the perfect understudy for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba amid reports linking Jakub Kiwior to an exit.
Mosquera, who can also play at right-back has featured in 33 La Liga games so far this term, with interception and recovery some of his best qualities.
He is also comfortable with playing out from the back, and a move to Arsenal could appeal to him as he dreams of playing regular Champions League football and challenging for major silverware.
The Valencia star won the Summer Olympics gold medal with the Spain under-23s last year and is eyeing a place in the senior national team.
Mosquera will need to keep playing regularly and continually get better for him to play for La Roja in the near future, and he could have doubts over a move to where he is not guaranteed a place in the starting XI.
He could find it tricky to immediately break into the first-team plans of Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, and he may need to settle for the role of a squad player at first should he complete a move to the North London club.
