Summer heat wave hits Astana and Almaty: Weather forecast for mid-May

Tengrinews.kz - Residents of Astana and Almaty can expect scorching summer-like temperatures in mid-May, according to the latest forecast. From May 14 to 16, the weather will remain mostly dry with variable cloud cover and rising temperatures.

May 14: Partly cloudy, no precipitation expected. Southeast wind at 3–8 m/s at night, increasing to 7–12 m/s during the day. Temperatures will range from +14…+16°C at night to +31…+33°C during the day.

May 15: Partly cloudy, dry. Southeast to east wind at 5–10 m/s. Night temperatures will stay around +15…+17°C, with daytime highs of +33…+35°C.

Intense heat forecasted – limit time in direct sunlight.

May 16: Partly cloudy with a chance of light rain and thunderstorms during the day. Southeast to east wind at 7–12 m/s. Temperatures will drop slightly, with +16…+18°C at night and +26…+28°C during the day.

May 15: Partly cloudy, no precipitation. Southwest wind at 3–8 m/s. Temperatures will range from +18…+20°C at night to +32…+34°C during the day.

May 16: Partly cloudy and dry. Southwest wind continues at 3–8 m/s. Nighttime temperatures remain at +18…+20°C, while the daytime heat peaks at +34…+36°C.

What meteorologists are saying

Forecasters previously warned that a heat wave bringing temperatures of up to 44°C is approaching Kazakhstan.

Southern and central regions will experience dry and hot weather, with temperatures reaching 35–44°C in the south and 35–38°C in central areas. In the Akmola region, highs are expected between 30–35°C.

Meanwhile, western and northern areas may see rain, thunderstorms, and even hail in some places.

May weather outlook in Kazakhstan

Kazhydromet previously reported that May temperatures are expected to be about 1°C above average across most of the country, making this spring significantly warmer than usual.
