Trump intends to postpone TikTok ban in US again

Tengrinews.kz – U.S. President Donald Trump will extend the deadline given to the owner of the social platform TikTok to find a buyer in the United States so that the app can continue operating in the country.
This was reported by NBC News, citing the White House.
This week, Trump plans to sign an executive order that will allow the platform to keep functioning despite existing legislation that bans its operation due to national security concerns, the report explains.

"As he has said many times, President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement.

The executive order will grant the Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, an additional three months to comply with the law passed in 2024. Under this law, the company must sell the service to a non-Chinese buyer, or else the app will be fully banned in the U.S.

“This extension will last 90 days, which the Administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure,” Leavitt emphasized.

During his first term in office, Trump already attempted to ban TikTok by signing a similar order. He claimed the app could be used in the interests of a hostile state — China. However, U.S. courts blocked that ban.
In his current term, Trump has already extended TikTok’s operation in the U.S. twice. The last extension was announced on his Truth Social platform in early April, stating that the deal “requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.” At that time, he said the platform could continue operating in the U.S. for another 75 days.
The initial deadline set for ByteDance to sell TikTok was January 19. However, Trump signed the new order after taking office, granting the company an additional 75 days to finalize the deal.
