Kazhydromet issues warning for residents of Astana and Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana and Almaty.

“On July 1, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Almaty, Aktobe, and overnight in the city of Astana,” the statement said.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
A temperature inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air is located above cold air, effectively “capping” it. Normally, air near the ground is warmer and rises upward, carrying away pollutants. But during an inversion, the cold air gets “trapped” below, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants build up at ground level, especially in urban areas.
