NSC is investigating the data leak of 16 million Kazakh citizens

Tengrinews.kz – The National Security Committee (NSC) is investigating the case of the personal data leak affecting 16 million Kazakhstan citizens.
This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to an official inquiry from Tengrinews.kz.

“The criminal case under Article 208, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (‘Unlawful Acquisition of Information’) is being investigated by the National Security Committee,” the Ministry’s press service stated.

Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiyev announced that a criminal case had been opened regarding the massive data leak.
What happened?
Previously, information appeared online claiming that 16.3 million records containing personal data of Kazakhstan residents had been leaked into the public domain. The leaked information reportedly included names, patronymics, gender, dates of birth, IIN (individual identification numbers), addresses, dates of residence, phone numbers (mobile, home, and work), citizenship, nationality, and other details.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry issued a statement regarding the incident. A statement was also made by the Center for Analysis and Investigation of Cyberattacks.
It was later announced that Kazakhstan citizens whose personal data is found in the leaked dataset will receive notifications through their personal accounts on the e-Gov portal.
Previously, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development commented on the incident involving the personal data leak of 16 million Kazakhstan citizens.
