Deputies propose “surprise” sanitary checks in Kazakh schools

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s schools will soon face unscheduled inspections to ensure compliance with sanitary standards. The initiative was announced by Mazhilis deputy Askhat Aimagambetov.
The deputy highlighted long-standing issues with how sanitary inspections are conducted in schools and kindergartens. According to him, in recent years, real monitoring has often been replaced by formality. Currently, sanitary checks are coordinated in advance, allowing institutions to prepare.
Aimagambetov noted that in some cases fines were imposed on school directors even when violations were beyond their control — for example, when schools operate in three shifts or when the number of students in classes exceeds the norm.

“Children’s safety is the responsibility not only of parents but of the entire society. Sanitary inspections are not just checks — they are an important tool for protecting the country’s future,” the deputy wrote.

What deputies propose

Transition to surprise inspections, without prior notice.
For initial violations, no fines; only warnings, consultations, and recommendations.
Planned checks for schools and camps to be conducted before the start of the academic year.
For violations requiring financial solutions, responsibility shifts to akimats or other state bodies, not school directors.
In case of threats to life and health — urgent measures such as temporary closures or suspension of staff.
Creation of a registry of school meal suppliers, where unreliable contractors will be blocked.

Earlier, the Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education announced that stipends for students in Kazakhstan would be increased once again, starting in September 2025.
