A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) reportedly involved in the April, 2000 abduction of foreign tourists in Sipadan, Malaysia, has been arrested in Zamboanga City, police said yesterday. The Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Abdul Munap alias “Munap Saimaran,” was arrested at around 5 p.m. Wednesday along P. Lorenzon St., in Zamboanga City by combined elements of the CIDG and the 30th Counter Intelligence Squadron of the 300 Air Intelligence and Security Group of the Philippine Air Force (PAF). Munap has standing warrants of arrest for a string of cases for serious illegal detention and kidnapping for ransom. He is being tagged as among the suspects in the April 23, 2000 kidnapping of 21 people from the dive resort island of Sipadan.
