After the United States, it is now the United Kingdom’s (UK) turn to negotiate a new defense cooperation agreement with the Philippines. This was revealed by British Ambassador to Manila Asif Ahmad in a meeting with reporters at his official residence in Forbes Park, Makati City this week. “It’s actually being redone now,” said Ambassador Ahmad referring to the existing defense agreement between the two countries. “We have an existing one but by the end of this calendar year we want to establish a new one.” EXPAND THE SCOPE According to the top British diplomat in Manila, the UK government wants to expand the scope “a little bit” to cover some of the lessons learned in terms of work undertaken during the onslaught of super-typhoon Yolanda. “A lot of the work was done very informally.
